On my recent travel to Kyushu, I took advantage of the JR Kyushu Discovery Rail Pass. It is a kind of pass that allows you get on and off freely. It covers  local and rapid trains operated by JR Kyushu. It also includes the  popular limited express trains, tourist trains, and even the Shinkansen.

My 3 days itinerary

Day 1

Shinkansen -Kumamoto to Kagoshima Chuo

  • Sakurajima
  • Kagoshima City

Day 2 

Limited Express – Kagoshinma Chuo – Ibusuki

  • Kaimondake View
  • Cape Nagasakibana
  • Saraku Sand Bath

Day 3

Limited Express – Kagoshinma Chuo – Miyazaki

  • Aoshima
  • Miyazaki City

 

Is it worth it?  YES, I highly recommend to get JR Kyushu Discovery Rail Pass, only if you extensively used the Shinkansen and express trains.

Shinkansen- 7270

Limited Trains – 8730

Local train – 380

Total- 16, 380-12,000

Save -> 4,380 yen
